Refrigerant Licensing and Approved Filler Courses

Anyone who recovers refrigerant gas back into a container while servicing or installing refrigeration and air conditioning systems in New Zealand needs a WorkSafe Approved Filler Compliance Certificate. Our one-day course gets you fully trained, assessed and certified for A1, A2 and A2L refrigerants.
Who is this course for?
HVAC+R technicians who need to obtain or update their Refrigerant Licensing for A1, A2 and A2L refrigerant classes.
This course is the standard industry pathway to becoming a WorkSafe Approved Filler (equivalent to the RLNZ Approved Filler Course) and is suited to apprentices and qualified technicians alike who handle refrigerant recovery as part of their daily work.
Why do you
need this course?
- WorkSafe requires anyone filling containers with gases under pressure — including refrigerant cylinders — to hold a current Approved Filler Compliance Certificate, issued by a compliance certifier.
- A Refrigerant Licensing Compliance Certificate is valid for 5 years before it needs renewing.
- Employers have a duty of care to ensure technicians handling refrigerant recovery are properly trained and certified.
- Many principal contractors now require proof of an Approved Filler Compliance Certificate before allowing sub-contractors on site.
- This course satisfies the same WorkSafe requirements as the RLNZ Approved Filler Course, giving you a recognised, nationally valid Refrigerant Licensing credential.

- Cylinder safety knowledge
- Gas safety data sheets (SDS), PPE and equipment knowledge
- Refrigerant recovery calculations made easy
- Recovery methods and industry best practice
Practical Skills:
- Assessment of safe working practices — personal and environmental
- Electrical and other equipment safety checks
- Performing a full refrigerant recovery, including calculations and leak testing
- Final safety checks and assessment of your competency
This course aims to teach, assess and certify you as a WorkSafe Approved Filler all in one day, with one-on-one help available throughout — especially with calculations.
